Brazil: Nonroad: Emissions

Overview

PROCONVE MAR-I is the first regulation to limit exhaust emissions and noise from new construction and farm machinery in Brazil. It sets limits equivalent to US Tier III and EU Stage III A for nonroad diesel engine emissions. These limits apply to all new construction equipment as of January 2017 and phase in for new farm equipment from January 2017–2019.

Standard type
Conventional pollutant emission limits

Regulating Body
Conselho Nacional do Meio Ambiente (CONAMA, National Environment Council)

Applicability
New nonroad vehicles and equipment

History

On 13 July 2011, the Conselho Nacional do Meio Ambiente (CONAMA) adopted CONAMA Resolution #433, limiting exhaust emissions and noise from new construction and farm machinery. Referred to as PROCONVE MAR-I, it is the first legislation to regulate emissions from nonroad mobile machinery in Brazil. It sets limits equivalent to US Tier III and EU Stage III A for nonroad diesel engine emissions.

Technical Standards

MAR-I emission limits are phased in from 2015 to 2019. The implementation dates depend on the power category and type of machinery (construction or farm). Noise emission limits apply from 2015 for certain types of construction machinery with engines rated below 500 kW.
