South Korea
South Korea first implemented mandatory fuel economy standards for light-duty vehicles in 2006 and has adopted stringent efficiency targets through 2020. Light- and heavy-duty vehicles powered by diesel are subject to Euro 6/VI emissions standards, whereas light-duty gasoline vehicles are subject to California’s NMOG (Non-Methane Organic Gases) fleet average system. Fuel quality standards for diesel and gasoline are among the most stringent in the world and on par with Europe.
